Real Madrid have confirmed that star forward Kylian Mbappé will miss Sunday’s LaLiga clash with Real Betis and is doubtful for next week’s Spanish Supercopa. The club announced that the French international has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee, the same issue that has troubled him in recent weeks.
Mbappé, currently LaLiga’s top scorer with 18 goals, did not train on Wednesday, despite taking part in Tuesday’s open training session for fans. Real Madrid stated that his progress will be closely monitored by the medical team.
Madrid host Betis at the Bernabéu in their first game of 2026 before traveling to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the Supercopa. They face Atlético Madrid in the semifinal on January 8, with a potential final against Barcelona or Athletic Club on January 11.
Mbappé has started all 18 of Madrid’s league games this season but missed their Champions League match against Manchester City on December 10. He played 90 minutes in three games in a week before Christmas — against Alavés, Sevilla, and Talavera de la Reina — finishing 2025 by matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record of 59 goals in a calendar year.
