Celta’s summer core at stake: Aspas, Alonso, Mingueza near contract end

Iago Aspas celebrates for Celta de Vigo during a LaLiga match.

Celta de Vigo are heading into a tight stretch of decision-making, with three familiar names running toward the same deadline. Iago Aspas, Marcos Alonso and Óscar Mingueza are all due to reach the end of their current deals in June, and that clock is now shaping the club’s planning for next season.

Sporting director Marco Garcés has been unusually open about how the club sees the situation, rating the chances of renewals on a scale that put Aspas highest, then Alonso, then Mingueza. He also indicated offers are already on the table from the club’s side — but with time running out, every week matters.

The most delicate case is Mingueza, because there’s real outside noise. Juventus have been repeatedly linked with a move, which forces Celta to juggle renewal talks with the possibility of a transfer decision before the summer.

Celta have also added another piece that affects the puzzle: Álvaro Núñez arrived from Elche CF on a deal that runs to 2030, but he missed the match against CA Osasuna with pubalgia and is expected back in roughly one to two weeks.

Behind the scenes, there’s a fourth file on the desk too: head coach Claudio Giráldez is under contract until 2027, and Garcés has said the club plan to open extension talks soon. With renewals, transfer pressure and a coach timeline overlapping, Celta’s next steps will define how stable — or how rebuilt — next season’s squad looks.
