Roma set to prepare loan proposal for Man Utd striker Zirkzee

Roma are preparing to step up their interest in Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, with the Italian club expected to begin working on a formal proposal on Friday, according to Sky Sports in Italy.

Roma’s preference is to sign the Dutch striker on loan, including a clause that would give them the right to buy the player should certain conditions be met. This structure would allow the Serie A side to strengthen their squad without making an immediate long-term financial commitment.

Manchester United’s position

Despite Roma’s interest, Manchester United are not actively looking to sell Zirkzee at this stage. Sky Sports News previously reported that United are aware of Roma’s approach but do not currently see the striker as surplus to requirements ahead of the transfer window.

The 24-year-old has recently made an impact under Ruben Amorim, scoring the equaliser in last month’s 2–1 victory away at Crystal Palace. However, that goal remains his only strike of the season, during which he has made 11 appearances across all competitions.

A difficult spell at Old Trafford

Zirkzee joined United from Bologna in the summer of 2024 for a fee of around £36.5 million, but he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. Overall, the former Bayern Munich attacker has scored eight goals in 60 appearances for the club, numbers that reflect a challenging spell in England so far.

Roma continue to monitor the situation closely, with a loan move seen as a potential solution that could benefit both the player and the two clubs involved.
