West Ham cool interest in £40m Strand Larsen

West Ham’s interest in Norway striker Jorgen Strand Larsen has cooled after learning Wolves are asking £40 million for the 25-year-old forward.

The Hammers are determined to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad with new attacking options. Larsen had been at the top of their list, and Wolves manager Rob Edwards did not rule out the possibility of the Norway international leaving Molineux following the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

However, West Ham believe the asking price for Larsen, who recently signed a contract extension until 2030, is too high. The club is now exploring alternatives, although their interest could be revived in the future.

Earlier this year, Newcastle had bids of £50m and £55m turned down. Wolves are currently enduring a difficult season, which looks set to end in relegation to the Championship.

“We will make the right call on every individual,” said Edwards. “Only time will tell. It will be a club decision and I am sure there will be movement in and out because we want to make an impact in the month.”

Meanwhile, West Ham, who drew 2-2 with Brighton at the London Stadium to close the gap on fourth-from-bottom Nottingham Forest to four points, are now looking at other options. Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah is reportedly of interest.

Nketiah has scored four goals in 19 appearances for Palace this season, but the 26-year-old former Arsenal player has only started twice in the Premier League, most recently in the 4-1 defeat to Leeds on 20 December.
